Master PizzaioloDOMENICO TOLOMEO

Domenico “Mimmo” Tolomeo is a first-generation Italian American who comes from a long line of master bread makers from Italy's southern region.

He started his career in the world of food working in local Italian deli's on Long Island. He learned old-world skills such as butchering meats and the art of making fresh mozzarella from scratch. His wide-ranging hands-on experiences and his strong work ethic led him to many career opportunities, including managing one of the largest gourmet Italian markets in New York.

At 32, he decided to make a career change and began studying the art of pizza making. He trained under Award Winning Master Pizzaiolo Roberto Caporuscio. Under Roberto's guidance, Mimmo received his certification from the Associazione Pizzaiouli Napoletani, the governing body of pizza makers in Italy. Over the course of his first year, Mimmo went on to compete in Napoli, placing 25th out of 250 competitors, a respectable feat for a novice pizzaiolo. He also was the recipient of the 2019 Caputo Rising Star Pizzaiolo at the Infamous Pizza Expo. Before joining Zazzy's, he was on his way to becoming the Capo Pizzaiolo at the World Renowned Keste Pizza e Vino.

Mimmo is very excited to begin a new chapter of his already colorful career, joining the Zazzy's Pizza family. He brings to Zazzy's his expertise, passion for pizza and it's traditions, as well as his team-first approach. He is confident Zazzy's will become one of the biggest names in the ultra-competitive pizza industry.

Master ChefJames Whelen

Chef James Whelen came from humble beginnings learning the cooking techniques of his family that encompasses a long line of butchers and bakers.

He went on to work in Boston and train under critically acclaimed chefs. There he learned to cook a multitude of cuisines from around the globe. He is also a self-taught baker that has specialized in many of the world's favorite bread.

Since his own diagnosis with gluten intolerance, James has been working on adding the best gluten-free and plant-based menu items to his repertoire. James is excited to bring his knowledge and passion for food to the Zazzy's family and is confident Zazzy's can turn the pizza industry on its head.
